It has been around for a very long time. The Grapefruit Diet has been known to exist for the longest time and has been passed on from generations to generations.

Originally, the Grapefruit Diet has been recognized as one of the oldest fad diets that most celebrities have been into for the past several decades. But from my point of view, this type of diet may not be as difficult as it seems. In the past, this diet has been restrictive of too much caloric food. However, the particular Grapefruit Diet I know has more quality of healthy foods and drinks.

Insulin has been known to increase the chances for weight gain. This is where grapefruit are said to be helpful since it has the ability to eliminate enzymes that allows the reproduction of insulin in the body. The concept of the diet is eating half of a grapefruit or if you prefer it in liquid form, you may drink a glass of it along with your meal consumption.

Another practice for this type of diet is drinking eight glasses of water on a daily basis. There should be no other meals throughout the day except for the three common practices that we have: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Moderation is also needed. If you want coffee it should only be limited to one cup a day.

If you need to binge out, eating as much salads as you want is allowed and should be taken during lunch or dinner. It is preferable to prepare those that contain high level of proteins such as cheese, nuts, eggs and unprocessed meats.

Do not adhere to deep frying foods instead grilling, boiling and baking are the best options around.

The nutritional value of the Grapefruit Diet includes a hefty dose of the much needed Vitamin C, beta-carotene, fiber and antioxidants. It has a natural ability to serve as a diuretic which helps eliminate excess water from being stored in the body.

Most celebrities have enjoyed this type of diet as it has been claimed to reduce weight quickly.

The downside for the Grapefruit Diet may be a bit challenging when you are outdoors. Restaurants may tend to serve you with foods that have hidden oil and calories. The selection of fruits, vegetables and meat may also be too monotonous. Hence, it is important to explore more recipes that would prohibit you from getting bored with the menu cycle.
