Numerous diets have been sprouting in the market and a lot of them almost always have the same concept when it comes to losing weight, avoiding foods that are rich in carbohydrates and fats. The South Beach diet on the other hand is different in the sense that it gives a great emphasis that dieters should only distinguish what good carbs and fats from the bad ones.

The South Beach Diet was originally created from Miami which was intended for patients who are suffering from heart ailments. The weight loss was necessary to keep their health condition at bay.

It has some similarity with the Atkins Diet in the sense that it does not limit one to small food portions but rather it is more of an ideal way of living that one can adhere to for a long period of time.

In the South Beach Diet, dieters are enlightened on what makes up the bad carbs and what it does for the body. For one, carbs that contains high amount of Glycemic Index responsible for the inability of insulin to process fat or sugar. Saturated and Trans fats are the two most common fats that triggers a high risk for cardiac ailments.

Simply put, ridding these fat types from your diet would mean a healthier heart condition and a normal body weight.

There are certain carbs that are allowed for the South Beach Diet since they have lower amounts of glycemic index. In example, brown rice is more preferable carb food compared to the white one.

There are three phases that constitutes the South Beach Diet:

Phase I – This is considered to be the most difficult phase among the three. There are certain food types that should be avoided for as long as 3 to 4 weeks. It includes sugar, candy, bread, potatoes, fruit, cereals and grains.

Phase II – In this phase whole grain foods along with fruits and vegetables are allowed but should be taken in moderation to keep the pace of achieving ones desired weight.

Phase III – Most of the foods that are considered whole grains are now put back in the menu but with the consideration that one should adopt the meal plan designed by the South Beach Diet for their average eating lifestyle.

This type of Diet has been acknowledged by most celebrities to be quite easy to follow. No need to count calories for most of the time but rather learn which foods should be eaten or if they belong to the good carb or bad carb food groups.

But some people have found it difficult to adhere to such diet as there are no support groups for the South Beach Diet. Some people require some motivation and inspiration from other people to make such diet work for their advantage.

Another downside for the South Beach Diet is that once a dieter leaves the menu plan they are prone to gain weight quickly. This is why it was known to be a diet that should be adhered to for a long period of time.
